The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) issued a stern notice to subscribers regarding the impending disconnection of services due to non-compliance with the Registration of Communication Subscribers’ Regulations 2022 (SIM-NIN Linkage).
Citing the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) directive dated 15 December 2023, ALTON emphasized the necessity for subscribers to link their National Identity Numbers (NINs) to their Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Numbers (MSISDNs). The directive mandates full network barring for MSISDNs lacking submitted NINs or those without verified NINs.
The outlined directives set specific deadlines for compliance; MSISDNs without submitted NINs will face disconnection by 28 February 2024, MSISDNs linked to unverified NINs (five or more) will be disconnected by 29 March 2024 and MSISDNs linked to unverified NINs (less than 5) will be disconnected by 15 April 2024.

ALTON stressed that affected subscribers must undergo biometric and biodata verification before service restoration.
The SIM/NIN Harmonization Program, initiated in December 2020 by the Federal Government through the NCC, aims to align subscriber records with NINs to avoid service restrictions.
Despite previous measures restricting outgoing calls for MSISDNs without submitted NINs, a considerable number of subscribers remain non-compliant.

ALTON reiterated the critical role of the NIN in establishing a robust National Identity Management System, facilitating economic inclusion, government service access, and addressing security concerns.
Expressing commitment to governmental objectives in building a digital economy, ALTON urged subscribers to enroll for NINs or submit their NINs through designated channels to avert complete service suspension.
The notice, signed by Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman, and Gbolahan Awonuga, Executive Secretary of ALTON, serves as a stark reminder to subscribers to swiftly adhere to NIN linkage directives to avoid service disruptions.
