Nigeria Computer Society NCS Pays Courtesy Visit To Defence Minister, Seeks Strategic Partnership On AI, Cybersecurity

The Nigeria Computer Society, NCS, led by its President, Prof. Mohammed Sirajo Aliyu, FNCS, today paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Retired General Christopher Musa, OFR, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

The NCS delegation included members of the National Executive Council and the leadership of the NCS Abuja Chapter headed by its Chairman, Mr. Andrew Abu. And exco members which includes.

Other members of the delegation included Mr. Bayo Onimade, Chairman, Conferences Committee, and senior officials of the Society.

The purpose of the visit was to formally intimate the Honourable Minister with the mandate, structure, and strategic initiatives of the Nigeria Computer Society, the nation’s premier body for IT professionals with a membership strength of over 5,000 spread across the public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Mohammed Sirajo Aliyu highlighted NCS flagship programmes and interventions, including its national focus on Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, the National Information Technology Merit Awards, NITMA, professional development, and standards advocacy.

The President formally invited the Honourable Minister as Special Guest to the NCS National Conference scheduled to hold in Jos, Plateau State in August 2026.

Mr. Andrew Abu, Chairman, NCS Abuja Chapter, briefed the Minister on innovative products and services being driven by the Chapter, including Smart Travel solutions and specialized capacity-building trainings tailored for government and security agencies.

In his response, the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR, welcomed the NCS delegation and commended the Society for its contributions to national development.

“Today’s world is driven by technology. Computers are at the heart of modern operations, and Artificial Intelligence has become a critical component of national development and security,” General Musa stated.

“As an institution, we must actively embrace these innovations to avoid the risk of being left significantly behind. The projects you have presented are both timely and highly important. They align with our strategic priorities, particularly in strengthening our technological capabilities and enhancing national security.”

The Minister assured the NCS of the Ministry’s full support and commitment to collaborative initiatives. “I want to assure you of my full support and commitment to this initiative. We are ready to key into this project and work collaboratively to ensure its successful implementation,” he said.

On cybersecurity, General Musa emphasized its centrality to defence operations. “Cybersecurity remains a vital area that the Armed Forces must continue to prioritise. Given the evolving nature of threats in the digital space, strong cooperation between our institutions is not only necessary but invaluable. This partnership means a great deal to me, and I am confident it will yield meaningful and lasting results,” the Minister posited.

The visit ended with a mutual commitment to establish a technical working group between the Ministry of Defence and the Nigeria Computer Society to explore areas of collaboration in AI, cyber defence, digital skills for military personnel, and secure technology adoption.
