NCS Seeks More Empowerment for Young People to End japa Syndrome

Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, president of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), said that the Society established over four decades ago has made exploits including the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, NITDA, NiRA, amongst others, which are making significant contributions to the nation’s digital economy.

The NCS President also believes that more attention should be given to forestalling mass exodus of techies in the country through the japa syndrome.

Speaking through Dr. Charles Onyeukwu, deputy national president, Nigeria Computer Society, at Lagos Future Conference 2025, he said that Nigeria must push the boundaries by preparing young people with relevant skills to provide defense for the country in the digital space.

He said, this way, the banks and other industries will be protected from the ‘cyber war’ and cyber threats that have crippled many economies.

Dr. Onyeukwu wooed young people present at the Lagos Future Conference to enroll in the NCS membership schemes, stressing that putting end to the ‘japa’ syndrome is a collective efforts through the provisioning of meaningful avenues for the young people to express their dreams.

He expressed NCS’ readiness to partner with industry stakeholders to push the boundaries of digital economy and improve the nation’s GDP.
