ABUJA — The 2026 Abuja Tech & Digital Economy Week (ATDEW) is set to feature the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) more prominently following a strategic working visit by the ATDEW Programme Steering Committee to the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office in Abuja.
The visit formed part of ongoing stakeholder engagements by the Programme Steering Committee to align ATDEW 2026 with key national and continental priorities and to explore strategic partnerships ahead of the three-day technology and digital economy event.
ATDEW 2026 is scheduled for 24–26 November 2026 at the Abuja Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, under the theme: “Energizing Smart Mobility: Powering Cities of the Future.”
The event is organised by the Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN), with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) as Co-Host, alongside NASENI, Pi-CNG & EV and the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) as strategic partners.
During the working visit, the ATDEW delegation engaged with officials of the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office, including the Coordinator responsible for Digital Trade, who represented the National Coordinator during the engagement.
The discussions focused on the intersection between technology, digital trade, innovation, entrepreneurship and Nigeria’s participation in the emerging continental digital economy.
Following what the organisers described as a successful deliberation and alignment of priorities, the two sides agreed that AfCFTA will feature prominently in the ATDEW 2026 programme.
The collaboration is expected to provide a platform for conversations around digital trade, technology-enabled commerce, African markets, cross-border digital services, innovation, trade corridors and opportunities for Nigerian technology companies and startups to participate more effectively in the continental market.
The partnership comes at a time when digital trade is becoming increasingly important to the implementation of AfCFTA and the development of an integrated African market. The Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office has itself been emphasising digital trade, private-sector participation, investment and practical market-access opportunities for Nigerian businesses.
For ATDEW, the inclusion of AfCFTA adds a continental dimension to the event’s focus on technology and smart cities.
According to Andrew Agbo Abu, MNCS, MCPN, CDPO, Chairman of the ATDEW Programme Steering Committee and Founder of Young Innovators of Nigeria, the engagement was important because Nigeria’s technology conversation must increasingly be connected to the markets that technology can serve.
“We cannot talk about the future of Nigeria’s digital economy without talking about the African market.
Our innovators need markets, our technology companies need opportunities to scale, and our young entrepreneurs need pathways into a larger continental economy. Our engagement with the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office is therefore very strategic.”
He added: “We are particularly interested in how digital trade, technology, innovation and smart infrastructure can come together to help Nigerian businesses participate more effectively in intra-African commerce. We are delighted that AfCFTA will have a strong presence in the ATDEW conversation.”
The ATDEW Programme Steering Committee expressed appreciation to the National Coordinator and the team at the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office for receiving the delegation and for the constructive discussions.
The organisers said the partnership will be reflected in relevant sessions of the ATDEW programme, particularly those dealing with digital trade, connected African cities, technology-enabled commerce, innovation, investment and the future of Africa’s digital economy.
The development further positions ATDEW 2026 as a platform connecting Nigeria’s domestic technology ecosystem with broader African opportunities.
Beyond the policy discussions, the event’s exhibition, innovation challenge and investment programme are expected to provide opportunities for technology companies, startups and innovators to engage potential partners, investors, government institutions and markets.
