Tems Wins Second Grammy, Triumphs Over Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has secured her second Grammy Award, winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Tems claimed the award with her song Love Me JeJe, outperforming fellow nominees Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow, Asake and Wizkid’s MMS, Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay’s Sensational, and Burna Boy’s Higher.

This marks the second year of the Best African Music Performance category, following South African singer Tyla’s win in 2024 for her hit song Water.

Tems, who received three nominations at this year’s Grammys, now boasts eight career nominations. She was also in contention for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning).

In the Best Global Music Album category, Matt B & the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra won with Alkebulan II, while SZA’s Saturn clinched Best R&B Song, beating Tems’ Burning.

The 67th Grammy Awards celebrated global musical excellence, with Nigerian artists making strong showings across multiple categories.
