President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, with petroleum product loading resuming officially on November 26, 2024. This achievement, he noted, represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward energy sufficiency.
President Tinubu credited the progress to the foundational efforts of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who initiated the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries, and thanked the African Export-Import Bank for financing the project.

He also praised the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Mele Kyari, for his resilience and dedication in overcoming obstacles to bring the Port Harcourt refinery back into operation.
Encouraged by the success, President Tinubu directed NNPCL to accelerate efforts to reactivate the second Port Harcourt refinery, along with the Warri and Kaduna refineries. He emphasized that these developments, in tandem with private sector investments, will elevate Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity and position the country as a global energy hub.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to repairing Nigeria’s refineries and dispelling the paradox of being a major crude oil producer reliant on imported refined products. He highlighted his Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on: Achieving energy sufficiency, Enhancing energy security, Boosting export capacity
President Tinubu called on all stakeholders, including institutions and citizens, to uphold patience, accountability, and integrity in rebuilding Nigeria’s infrastructure. He affirmed that the success of such projects is pivotal to achieving shared economic prosperity for all Nigerians.
