Minister Tijani Unveils Job Creation Plans through Starlink Initiatives

In a recent development, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, shared ambitious strategies aimed at job creation in Nigeria. Tijani disclosed plans for generating employment opportunities through initiatives like a certified installer/maintenance program for Starlink and collaboration with local hardware startups to produce repeater boxes.


During a meeting with SpaceX’s Senior Director, Ryan Goodnight, at the International Telecommunication Union-World Radio Communication Conference in Dubai, Minister Tijani emphasized Nigeria’s status as Starlink’s largest market in Africa. The discussion focused on addressing the connectivity needs of unserved and underserved Nigerians, while also exploring the potential to create thousands of jobs.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Minister Tijani tweeted about the fruitful conversation with Ryan Goodnight. The minister highlighted the growing demand for Starlink in Nigeria and expressed the intention to encourage tech companies, including SpaceX led by Elon Musk, to invest and contribute to the deepening of Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.


As of the latest data from the Nigerian Communications Commission, Starlink, which officially launched in Nigeria in January 2023, has garnered 6,756 wireless Internet subscribers. Nigeria holds the distinction of being Starlink’s first African operational country and the 47th globally. The initiatives announced by Minister Tijani signal a significant step towards leveraging technology for both connectivity and economic growth in the region.
