Obasanjo, Telecom Experts Laud Industry Growth at Oketola’s Book Launch on Nigerian Tech Evolution

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector gathered to assess the industry’s evolution at the launch of Dayo Oketola’s book, ‘The Catalyst: Nigerian Tech Evolution Through a Journalist’s Lens.’ The book highlights the significant progress made in the sector while also raising concerns about challenges that could hinder future development if not addressed.

Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), emphasized the need for a tariff review to reflect current business realities, warning that the sector’s growth may be at risk without government intervention. He also lauded the declaration of telecom infrastructure as Critical National Infrastructure, ensuring better protection against vandalism.

Former President Obasanjo commended the telecom sector’s achievements, highlighting the economic benefits derived from auctioning telecom licenses, and called for renewed efforts to build a stronger, future-ready telecom structure.

Oketola, a decorated journalist and former Editor of the punch, reflected on his two decades in journalism, acknowledging the impact his work has had on various sectors including ICT, business, and anti-corruption efforts.
