The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has strongly refuted allegations of compromising sensitive data of Nigerian citizens, as recently reported. In a statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, NIMC assures the public that the data of Nigerians remains secure and has not been compromised.
The Commission has not authorized any website or entity to sell or misuse the National Identification Number (NIN) or any other identities. The following websites—idfinder.com.ng, Verify.ng/sign in, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com—are identified as unauthorized data harvesters. NIMC urges the public to disregard any claims or services offered by these websites and refrain from providing their data to them, as they are potentially fraudulent.

NIMC has implemented robust measures to safeguard the nation’s database from cyber threats. The Commission’s infrastructure meets the stringent ISO 27001:2013 Information Security Management System Standard, with annual recertification and strict compliance with Nigerian Data Protection Law.
The Commission advises Nigerians to avoid giving their data to unauthorized and phishing sites to prevent data harvesting and compromise. NIMC reaffirms its commitment to upholding ethical standards in data protection, in line with federal government directives and data privacy regulations. Licensed partners or vendors are not authorized to scan or store NIN slips but to verify NINs through approved channels.
NIMC is working closely with security operatives to apprehend individuals masquerading as online vendors and assures that they will face legal consequences. The public is urged to remain vigilant against false information and rely on verified sources for accurate updates. NIMC remains committed to providing secure and reliable identity management, ensuring the highest level of security for its systems and databases, which are critical national assets.
