President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Suspends Bawa As EFCC Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has authorized the indefinite suspension of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, from his role as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The decision was made to facilitate a thorough investigation into his conduct during his tenure.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, a statement issued by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information at the SGF Office, announced the suspension of Bawa. The purpose of the suspension is to conduct a thorough investigation into his actions while serving as the Chairman of the EFCC.

The statement also instructed Bawa to immediately hand over his responsibilities to the director of operations at the commission, who will assume the role of overseeing the EFCC chairman’s office until the investigation is concluded.

This development follows the recent suspension and detention of the Governor of the Central Bank (CBN) by the DSS on allegations of gross misconduct.
