Celebration: Bayero Agabi wins Industry Support Award at Telecom @ 20.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of Nigeria’s infamous telecommunications revolution, Dr. Bayero Agabi, President of Digivation Networks, has been honoured for his contributions to the industry’s growth over the last two decades.

The award was presented to Dr. Bayero in Lagos yesterday at the Nigeria’s Telecommunications Revolution At 20 Summit Anniversary Lecture, which was organized by Compact Communications Limited and endorsed by the Nigerian Communications Commission and had the theme: ‘Telecommunications in Nigeria; The Revolution And The Next Frontier’ (NCC).

The Industry Support Awards are being granted to Dr. Bayero in recognition of his supportive role and persistent solidarity in helping to sustain the gains of Nigeria’s telecoms revolution, according to the organizers.

“We appreciate your support in using the broadcast media as a tool to help build the telecom industry to where it is today, allowing other sectors of the economy to thrive.” While giving the award to Dr. Bayero during the summit attended by all industry players, Mr. Chuddy Oduenyi, Chief Executive Officer of Compact Communications Limited, remarked, “We wish you more years of honorable contribution to Nigeria and humanity.”

Mojisola Alabi, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Digivation Networks, accepted the award on behalf of Dr. Bayero and expressed her delight that the industry acknowledged those who helped build the sector at the start of the telecom revolution in 2001.

She highlighted Dr. Bayero is one of the pioneers in the ICT media who, over the last two decades, have worked to ensure that the telecom business has evolved into what it is today through various lobbying efforts.

Dr. Bayero Agabi is regarded as one of Africa’s premier ICT broadcast journalists, having won the coveted UNECA/AISI (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa/Africa Information Society Media Awards) twice for best African ICT reporting, research, and local content.

Agabi is on the National Data Harmonization Committee, the National Broadband Council, and the Senate Cyber Security Expert Advisory Group. Agabi is the President of the Centre For Cyber Awareness And Development CECAD and the Vice President of the Nigeria Internet Group.

Bayero Agabi, a Pan-African champion for the digital economy, pioneered technology broadcasting on television in Nigeria over two decades ago and has received well over 100 local and international accolades. Bayero, a graduate of PAU, UNIJOS, LASU, and Commonwealth University, has traveled the globe reporting and speaking on ICT and technology issues as they pertain to Africa’s development.

Bayero Agabi has certificates in business and enterprise management, telecommunications, computer science, and public relations, as well as a degree in mass communication, a diploma in computer science, a PGD in public administration, an MPA, and a doctorate in public policy.

Agabi is a member of the Institute of Public Relations Chattered , a fellow of the Institute of Management ConsultancyFIMC, a fellow of the Institute of Information Management Africa FIIM, and a member of the Institute of Data Processing Management IDPM.

With Digivation Network and other active business initiatives, he is currently pioneering ICT broadcast in West Africa.
