WhatsApp Launches New Functionality, ‘Communities’

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, and founder of WhatsApp has launched a new functionality and much-anticipated feature of WhatsApp, “Communities” that will progressively become accessible to all users over the upcoming months.

Zuckerberg explains that the latest functionality makes groups better by enabling sub-groups, multiple threads, announcement channels, and more and that the company is also rolling out polls and 32-person video calling which are all secured by end-to-end encryption so that users’ messages stay private.

The new feature adds Slack and Discord-like features including End-to-end encryption which will be used by the ‘Communities’ feature to manage functions including in-chat polls, 32-person video calls, groups with up to 1024 members, and Call Links.

‘Communities’ on WhatsApp will enable people to bring together separate groups under one umbrella with a structure that works for them. It will enable people to receive updates sent to the entire Community and easily organize smaller discussion groups on what matters to them.
