Tinubu Embraces Nigeria Customs Service’s Data-Driven Initiative

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his appreciation for the data-driven revolution spearheaded by the Nigeria Customs Service, emphasizing the pivotal role of data in decision-making and its illumination of the country’s economic landscape.

Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 2023 Annual Comptroller General of Customs Conference in Lagos, Tinubu highlighted the significance of technological applications in hindering Nigeria and the continent’s growth due to insufficient data for informed decision-making.

He lauded the customs’ data revolution as aligning with the federal government’s vision for the country, stressing the global reliance on data for informed decision-making across various sectors.

Tinubu emphasized the need to harness data for strategic planning and policymaking, aiming to rectify historical inadequacies and transform the governance landscape.

He highlighted the importance of leveraging data not only for governmental decision-making but also for addressing deficiencies in Nigerian policymaking.

Tinubu aspired to position Nigeria as a beacon for stakeholders in export and import activities under the auspices of the Nigerian Customs Service, underscoring the importance of training and capacity-building for customs officers to fortify data-driven infrastructure.

Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, reiterated the importance of data in their operations, acknowledging Lagos’s pivotal role in contributing to customs revenue and the nation’s economic narrative.

Adeniyi emphasized the customs’ evolution into a pivotal catalyst for economic growth, adapting to global trade’s dynamic landscape by integrating technology and embracing best practices to remain at the forefront of their mission.
