In a world where technology and innovation shape progress, the Rise Up and Sparkle Initiative (RUSI) has taken a bold step to spotlight young female achievers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The STEM Trailblazer Awards 2025, held across Lagos, Ogun State, and Abuja, were not just a celebration of academic excellence but also a movement that is reshaping perceptions of what girls can achieve in technology and innovation.
This year’s awards recognized outstanding female secondary school graduates across three major categories:- Best Female Graduating Student in ICT – Celebrating excellence in technology-driven studies.- Best Female Graduating Student in STEM Subjects – Honoring outstanding performance in core science and mathematics.- Best Overall Female Graduating Student – Recognizing all-round academic brilliance.
The award ceremonies were hosted during valedictory events in top schools, including Grace High School, Gbagada, Inspira College, Lagos, Sagab College, Lagos, Deeper Life High School, Abuja, and Nesgel Schools, Ogun State, among others. Recipients walked away with awards, cash prizes, and inspirational gifts, but more importantly, they gained the confidence to dream bigger and pursue leadership in technology and innovation.
According to one recipient: “Winning this award has fueled my passion to study engineering. It proves that hard work and dedication never go unnoticed.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Funmilola Omojola, FNCS, FIIM, founder of RUSI and recipient of the ICT Girls Torch Holder Award, stated: “When we celebrate girls in STEM, we are not just giving out awards. We are planting seeds of innovation, building role models, and creating leaders who will shape Africa’s digital future.”
Beyond awards, RUSI runs digital skills training, innovation challenges, mentorship, and entrepreneurship initiatives, creating a pipeline of future innovators. The organization’s vision is clear: to ensure that girls are not only included in the digital revolution but positioned as leaders of it.
