In a decisive move to upload integrity and accountability, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, with immediate effect.
President Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to initiate a comprehensive investigation into all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, along with its affiliated agencies.
The suspended Minister is instructed to hand over her responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and cooperate fully with the investigating authorities.
Additionally, a panel, led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, has been tasked with conducting a thorough examination of the financial structure of the social investment programmes. The objective is to reform relevant institutions and programs, addressing any institutional weaknesses and regaining public trust in the initiative.
These directives, effective immediately, underscore President Tinubu’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of transparency and accountability in the management of national resources.
