President Buhari Launches Military’s Advanced Communication Facilities

 


The President of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has launched the ‘Giwa 2 Project’, an advanced communication facility intended for the exclusive use of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The project is designed to provide a secure and dedicated communication channel for real-time audio and video transmissions during military operations.

He explains that the Giwa 2 project initiative is in alliance with some of the main focus areas of the Federal Government in the areas of security, economic progression and technology development. The benefits informed the timely support of the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure that the centre is commissioned as one of the proud landmarks and enduring achievements of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under this administration.

According to President Buhari, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy will provide assistance to the Defence Headquarters in order to ensure that the infrastructure intended for rural telephony is effectively utilized to achieve the objectives of the project. He further says that it is evident that the infrastructure designed to stand the test of time and deliver on its mandate is now made available.

The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, stated that the implementation of the new network would aid the country’s security institutions in developing confidence and improving their credibility.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, explained that the apex bank supported the project due to the impact of insecurity on agriculture.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, noted that the project was conceived because the fields of electronic warfare, information warfare, and cyber warfare are interconnected.
