The vulnerability detection feature proactively examines Windows computers for applications with security flaws, promptly notifying users to take preventive measures.

Vykintas Maknickas, Head of Product Strategy at NordVPN, explains that the vulnerability detection feature automatically scrutinizes applications for known security flaws that hackers might exploit to gain unauthorized access to devices and sensitive information. If a potential security risk is identified, the user receives an immediate notification, enabling them to safeguard their data and device.
To identify vulnerable software susceptible to hacking, the feature cross-references the device’s applications with a comprehensive database of app versions and their associated vulnerabilities. Upon detecting any vulnerable apps, the tool instantly sends an alert to the user. Currently, the vulnerability detection feature assesses around 150 million applications daily, identifying vulnerabilities in approximately 100 thousand applications used by Windows users.

Upon receiving an alert about a security loophole, users are advised to promptly update the vulnerable app. In cases where there is no update notification, cybersecurity experts recommend visiting the developer’s website to find the latest version of the app. Users should exercise caution if the software developer fails to provide security patches addressing the identified vulnerability.
