NDPC Commissioner Inaugurates Organizing Committee for 2025 NADPA-RADPA Conference

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner and CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), has officially inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the upcoming Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA-RADPA) Conference. The highly anticipated event, scheduled to take place in May 2025 in Abuja, will also include the annual general meeting (AGM).

This announcement was contained in a statement issued by Itunu Dosekun, Head of the Media Unit at NDPC, and confirmed the inauguration held at the NDPC office in Abuja. The Federal Republic of Nigeria, through the NDPC, will play host to the 10th edition of the prestigious conference, which will bring together top data protection experts and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.

Delegates are expected to include heads of data protection authorities, multinational corporations, development partners, foreign investors, and other industry leaders. The event aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8th-point agenda focused on economic growth and job creation.

In his remarks, Dr. Olatunji expressed gratitude to the newly inaugurated LOC members, commending their enthusiasm for collaborating with the NDPC to ensure the conference’s success. He described the conference as the largest gathering in Africa’s data protection and privacy ecosystem.

“This event is not just about the NDPC or the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. It is a national event, which is why we’ve drawn LOC members from different sectors,” Olatunji stated.

The LOC includes representatives from key sectors such as the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), NCC, NIPOST, NIGCOMSAT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and international organizations like the World Bank, European Union, Meta, Google, and Microsoft.

Dr. Olatunji further emphasized the conference’s role in portraying Nigeria as a stable, safe, and attractive destination for investment. “This is an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s positive image, proving we are a good and hospitable country,” he added.

He also noted that hosting the NADPA-RADPA conference demonstrates Nigeria’s growing influence within the global data protection community, despite the NDPC being a relatively new entity. The NADPA-RADPA was established in 2016 and serves as a platform for collaboration and exchange between 23 African data protection authorities, amplifying Africa’s voice on the global stage.
