NCC Set to Roll Out New Telecom Tariff Plans on December 13

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced plans to introduce new tariff guidelines for telecom operators, scheduled to take effect on December 13, 2024.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, disclosed the development during a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, November 28, 2024. The unveiling, initially planned for October 27, was postponed to finalize the framework.

The new tariff structure aims to simplify telecom services for consumers, reducing confusion around data and airtime usage. As part of the reforms, telecom operators will be restricted to offering a maximum of seven tariff plans, ensuring greater clarity and transparency for subscribers.

Addressing concerns about rapid data depletion, Dr. Maida clarified that the issue is often linked to users’ device settings rather than the telecom operators themselves. To tackle this, the NCC is conducting nationwide awareness campaigns to educate consumers on selecting and optimizing devices for their needs.

“This initiative will foster a more user-friendly telecom environment, enhancing consumer confidence and satisfaction,” the NCC stated.

The updated framework reflects the Commission’s ongoing commitment to creating a fair and transparent telecom market in Nigeria.
