NASENI Supports LAUTECH and FUT Researchers to Showcase Innovative R&D Products

Researchers from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State, and Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State, recently showcased their research and development (R&D) products funded by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

The presentation, held at the Technology Orientation Centre (TOC) at NASENI headquarters in Abuja, marked the culmination of a collaborative effort initiated in April 2023 when NASENI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three professors from these universities.

Professor Abass Alade from the Department of Chemical Engineering, LAUTECH, presented his research on the “Treatment of Aquaculture Waste Water Using Waste Banana and Plantain Stem Juice Composite Through Integrated Filtracoagulation Cascade System.” Associate Professor Jimoh Oladejo Tijani from the Department of Chemistry, Federal University of Technology, Minna, showcased his work on the “Development of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes-Iron Tungstate Composite for Industrial Wastewater Purification.” Dr. Sanusi Kolawole from the Department of Pure and Applied Physics, LAUTECH, highlighted his research on the “Development of Nano-coating Green Urea Fertilizer for Agricultural Production Enhancement.”

The event was attended by NASENI’s top management, including Research Directors. In his welcome address, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, represented by Research Director Dr. Samuel O. Olusunle, commended the professors for effectively utilizing the funds for their research publications and product development.

Professor Abass Alade, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by NASENI, emphasizing the achievements of the projects such as the feasible and sustainable linkage between the Agency and academia, facility development, and human resource development involving undergraduates and postgraduates.

He called for further funding from NASENI to mass-produce and commercialize the products through a tripartite relationship between NASENI, academia, and private sector operators.

NASENI Research Director Dr. Patrick Okwu thanked the researchers for their partnership and encouraged them to include production costs in their future presentations to make the information more accessible to the general public. Engr. Prof. Abdulmalik Onuwe, another NASENI Research Director, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration and emphasized the importance of expanding research deliverables to benefit the manufacturing sector.

In his vote of thanks, Deputy Director and Head of the Research Laboratory Development Department, Science Infrastructure Directorate, NASENI, Dr. Bakare Hassan Oladipo, highlighted NASENI’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration between Nigeria’s top academic institutions and the Agency’s R&D efforts.
