Minister Tijani Reveals $2 Billion Investment Needed to Expand Fiber Optic Network Across Nigeria

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has revealed that an estimated $2 billion investment is needed for the expansion of fiber optic cables across Nigeria.

 

Dr. Tijani emphasized the potential improvement in service quality for mobile telephony and home internet services with the prioritization of fiber optic cables. The goal is to increase the current 35,000 kilometers to 95,000 kilometers within the next four years.

He outlined the financial commitment required, stating that it is going to cost roughly 1.5 to 2 billion dollars to wire the whole of Nigeria to reach that 95,000.

 

The Minister expressed optimism about securing private funding in the next 6 to 12 months and collaborating with reputable companies to achieve the expansion over the next two to three years. The aim is to cover a significant portion of the targeted 95,000 kilometers before the end of the current administration’s first four years.
