The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has unveiled a new security initiative, Operation Udo Ga Achi (translated as Let Peace Reign), aimed at addressing the rising insecurity in the state. The initiative was announced during a press briefing at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, as part of the government’s strategy to combat criminal activities such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and touting.

To support the initiative, the state government has procured 168 patrol vehicles and plans to deploy advanced surveillance technologies to strengthen security across Anambra. Governor Soludo emphasized that the government is determined to restore peace and ensure the safety of lives and property.
As part of the program, the governor also declared an amnesty offer for willing criminals, encouraging them to surrender their arms and reintegrate into society. The amnesty program, which runs until February 2025, will provide those who surrender with an opportunity for rehabilitation and a fresh start. Governor Soludo reiterated that this is a chance for offenders to embrace peace and avoid severe consequences.
The governor further warned communities against harboring criminals, stating that such actions would lead to punitive measures, including the revocation of land rights and the confiscation of properties used to shelter criminals. He also stressed that individuals who aid and abet criminal activities will face prosecution as collaborators.
Governor Soludo condemned the hijacking of the Biafran struggle by criminal groups who use it as a cover for kidnapping and other illicit activities. He described such actions as purely criminal and having no connection to genuine agitations. The Operation Udo Ga Achi initiative is scheduled to commence by January 2025, signaling the state government’s commitment to restoring security and peace in Anambra State.
