Google has launched its Search Generative Experience (SGE) in Nigeria and other parts of the Sub-Saharan Africa region as an opt-in experiment in Search Labs. This AI-powered experience is available in English.

The rollout of the Search Generative Experience (SGE) represents a transformative step for Google, redefining the capabilities of a search engine with new breakthroughs in generative AI. This technology enables Google Search to address entirely new types of questions that were previously challenging to answer, revolutionizing how information is organized to assist users in navigating and understanding the vast online landscape.
With SGE’s generative AI capabilities, users will encounter an AI-powered overview of key information with links for further exploration. This feature aims to assist individuals who have felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information available online, providing a means to find answers more efficiently.

For example, when faced with a question like “Does Honey ever Spoil?” Google Search with generative AI can provide an initial overview. Below this, users will find suggested next steps, allowing them to tap into related queries like “What is the oldest honey ever eaten?” or input specific follow-up questions. This conversational experience enables intuitive learning and exploration of topics.
Google emphasizes that context will be seamlessly carried over from question to question, enhancing the natural flow of exploration for users.
