Nigerian Telecommunications Company, Globacom Ltd, has categorically denied reports circulating about its alleged indebtedness to MTN for interconnect charges. According to a reliable source within Globacom, the purported amount owed, standing at N1.6 billion, has been settled without any dispute.
The denial follows a public pre-disconnection notice shared on the Nigerian Communication Commission’s (NCC) Twitter page, signed by Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka. The notice claimed that despite repeated attempts at resolution, Glo had failed to clear its outstanding debts.
The NCC notice, issued in accordance with regulatory guidelines, outlined a partial disconnection of Globacom from MTN if the debts were not settled within 10 days from January 8, 2024. Subscribers were informed they would be unable to initiate calls to MTN but could still receive calls.
In response, a Glo official emphasized the need for a thorough fact-check before asserting any indebtedness. The official strongly refuted the claim, highlighting that Globacom has a history of pioneering initiatives in the Nigerian telecom industry, such as introducing pay-per-second billing, challenging foreign monopolies.
The official concluded that the report against Globacom, a fully indigenous telecommunications company, is unfounded and false.
