The Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NiWiT) recently held its 9th National Conference and 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Leisure Spring Hotel in Osogbo, Osun State, from June 16 to June 27, 2024. This year’s event was marked by the election of new officers, with Mrs. Funmilola Omojola emerging as the Vice President-elect.
The conference, which commenced on June 26, 2024, gathered professionals from various industries to empower women in technology. President Dele Bayo-Osibo delivered a powerful welcome address, emphasizing the importance of gender equality in the tech industry and encouraging women to develop technological solutions for local needs. She also highlighted the communication challenges women face in the field.
Osun State’s First Lady, Mrs. Titilola Adebusola Adeleke, delivered a keynote speech, reiterating the need for empowering women in technology and commending the Osun State Government for its support, including registering over 50 IT women professionals and providing welfare packages.
The conference featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops aimed at shaping the future through innovation and collaboration. Professionals from various industries attended, networking and learning from industry experts. In a heartwarming gesture, NiWiT presented cash gifts to students of Fakunle Comprehensive High School and Baptist High School to encourage and support the next generation of women in tech.
The Osun State Chapter of NiWiT inducted new members into the organization, expanding its reach and impact. The induction ceremony was a highlight of the conference, as new members were welcomed into the NiWiT community.

Furthermore, the conference witnessed the inauguration of new State Chapters, marking a significant milestone in NiWiT’s expansion. The newly inaugurated Chapters include Plateau, Lagos, Abuja, Kogi, and Oyo, which are poised to promote gender equality and empower women in tech at the grassroots level.
Following the inauguration of the new Chapters, NiWiT held its Annual General Meeting (AGM), providing a platform for members to discuss the organization’s progress, set new goals, and elect new executives. The AGM was a significant event, with attendees eager to make a positive impact in the tech industry.
The conference concluded with a dinner and awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the tech industry and women’s empowerment. The awards honored innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who have made a positive impact in their respective fields.
