Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady and National Chairperson of the ‘Renewed Hope Initiative,’ recently inaugurated an ICT center and educational facilities in Bauchi State during an official visit last Tuesday. The community ICT Center, constructed by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and an Alternative High School for Girls, supported by the Universal Basic Education Commission, were unveiled during the ceremony.
During her speech at the inauguration, the First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to improving access to education and digital skills for women and girls. She urged beneficiaries to maximize the opportunities presented by the projects and pledged to establish more ICT centers nationwide under her “Renewed Hope Initiative.” Stressing the pivotal role of ICT in human development, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted its significance in enhancing health and education outcomes.

She emphasized the importance of women’s active involvement in the ICT sector, stating that meaningful development hinges on a well-established ICT system. Additionally, she reiterated the administration’s commitment to prioritizing ICT development as a key revenue generator for the country.
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, praised the First Lady for including Bauchi in her initiative, affirming the state’s readiness to collaborate with NITDA and the Federal Government to empower women, children, and vulnerable groups.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General of NITDA, reiterated the agency’s dedication to digitally educating every Nigerian and integrating women into the ICT revolution. He outlined NITDA’s initiatives aimed at ensuring the active participation of women in ICT, including the implementation of eight pillars to introduce ICT to 40 percent of the female population.
The ICT center, named after former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa, is situated on Yandoka Road. Meanwhile, the commissioning of the Alternative High School for Girls marks a significant milestone in empowering young girls through education in the region. Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed gratitude to the governor for spearheading this initiative, while Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, commended the collaborative efforts behind the establishment of the school, expressing optimism about further advancements in Bauchi’s education sector.
