The Tinubu-led administration has inaugurated the Nigerian Academy for Cultural Studies (NACUS), a specialized institution aimed at fostering innovative studies and the development of Nigeria’s culture and history.
A statement released by Caleb Nor, Media Assistant to Executive Secretary/CEO NICO says the academy, accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), offers a National Diploma in Cultural Administration & Management (NDCAM) and a Postgraduate Diploma program affiliated with Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK).
This accreditation and affiliation enable individuals to progress from the Diploma to the Postgraduate Diploma and eventually pursue their Master’s degree.
The transformation of the institution, formerly the Training School of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), into a full-fledged higher institution signifies the administration’s commitment to prioritizing culture and fostering cultural Renaissance in policy-making processes.
According to Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, the Executive Secretary of NICO, this development underscores Nigeria’s recognition of the importance of embracing culture at the highest level. It reflects the administration’s determination to imbue national behavior and character with our cultural values.

Incorporating cultural content into the school curriculum at all levels of education is crucial to shedding foreign cultural influences and embracing our cultural heritage, thereby reinforcing our national and cultural identity.
The establishment of NACUS is a pioneering initiative by the Tinubu administration, supported by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy. It signifies the government’s commitment to prioritizing culture in daily life.
The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, has announced plans to establish campuses of NACUS in four geographical zones of Nigeria, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
Efforts are underway to ensure that certificates issued by the academy are recognized and employable in the civil service and beyond, benefiting cultural workers, entrepreneurs, hotels, tourism agencies, and others.
The rebranding of the institution reflects the administration’s dedication to empowering Nigerian youths in cultural endeavors, creating job opportunities, and showcasing Nigeria’s cultural heritage on the global stage.
