FG Collaborates with Seven States on Project 774 to Boost Digital Connectivity

The Federal Government has begun discussions with seven states to advance the implementation of Project 774, an initiative aimed at enhancing digital connectivity across Nigeria.

Project 774, launched earlier this year, seeks to provide internet access to all 774 local government secretariats in the country. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced the development on Thursday via X (formerly Twitter), following a meeting with officials from the participating states: Sokoto, Borno, Ogun, Kogi, Imo, Zamfara, and Kwara.

According to Tijani, the meeting focused on maximizing the use of existing investments and strengthening local government structures through enhanced digital access, aligning with the broader goal of local government autonomy.

The project involves collaboration with various government agencies, including the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, Galaxy Backbone, and the Universal Service Provision Fund.

In addition to Project 774, Minister Tijani is working with the World Bank on a large-scale fibre optic project. The government plans to invest $2 billion to expand Nigeria’s fibre-optic infrastructure from 35,000 km to 125,000 km, aiming to improve connectivity for sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture across the country.
