In an effort to address deforestation and safeguard women from the health risks associated with heavy reliance on firewood, the federal government has launched a climate-friendly cook stove. The device, named the Save80 Clean Cookstove, was unveiled in Enugu as part of the government’s commitment to mitigating climate change impacts.

Salisu Dahiru, the Director General of the National Council on Climate Change, emphasized the link between deforestation and Nigeria’s contribution to climate change due to the widespread use of firewood and charcoal in households. He highlighted the health implications of traditional cooking methods, citing smoke inhalation and environmental pollution.
The Save80 Clean Cookstove, produced by Atmosfair Climate and Sustainability Limited, a Nigerian subsidiary of the German non-profit organization Atmosfair, is designed to reduce deforestation by up to 80 percent.

Dahiru urged women, crucial stakeholders in climate change efforts, to adopt this eco-friendly stove equipped with two stainless pots and a wonder box. The stove minimizes smoke inhalation, uses less firewood, cooks quickly, is user-friendly, and offers substantial savings. Additionally, the device boasts a lifespan ranging from 10 to 15 years.
Malami Yabo, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Atmosfair Climate and Sustainability Limited, expressed gratitude to the federal government for prioritizing the fight against climate change in Nigeria. He underscored the importance of supporting companies that provide sustainable alternatives to cooking, thereby reducing dependence on forest resources.
