The Federal Government has unveiled plans to convene 120 Nigerian researchers, startups, and AI stakeholders to establish a unified framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) implementation across the country. Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, revealed this initiative in a statement posted on his X account.
Scheduled for April 15 to 18, 2024, in Abuja, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy workshop aims to facilitate the collaboration of AI experts and startups in crafting a comprehensive framework. Supported by Luminate, a global firm dedicated to driving transregional change, the workshop seeks to co-create a strategy aligned with Nigeria’s priorities to harness AI for societal advancement and economic growth.

Minister Tijani emphasized the significance of AI in addressing Nigeria’s complex challenges in education, agriculture, healthcare, and more. He highlighted the need to leverage AI technology to accelerate productivity and foster national development.
The statement underscored the government’s commitment to engaging Nigerian talent in the AI field, citing initiatives like the National Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme (NAIRS) and the Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology Application (4IRTA) project. Through collaboration with leading researchers and entrepreneurs in the AI space, the government aims to integrate AI applications into various sectors for everyday use.
