The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) and Miva Open University, Abuja, have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at advancing digital innovation, education, and technology-driven development in Nigeria. Both institutions on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at DBI’s headquarters in Abuja, formalizing a new chapter of collaboration in computer science education and ICT training.
The agreement is designed to strengthen academic cooperation in key areas such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and software development, while promoting joint research, innovation, and student exchange programs.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President/CEO of DBI, Mr. David Daser, hailed the leadership of Miva Open University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Tayo Arulogun, describing him as “a forward-thinking academic driving meaningful partnerships.” Daser assured that DBI is fully committed to delivering measurable outcomes under the partnership.
“This is not one of those MoUs that gather dust,” Daser emphasized. “We are ready to implement this agreement across our campuses in Enugu, Abuja, Kano, Lagos, Asaba, and Yola. It will enhance our National Innovation Diploma (NID) programs and broaden access to digital training for Nigerian youths.”
On his part, Professor Arulogun decried what he called the “do-it-alone syndrome” among many higher institutions in Nigeria and called for more inter-institutional collaboration to boost national capacity and educational relevance.
“We can’t continue operating in silos,” Arulogun said. “This partnership is a practical step toward breaking that barrier. From student internships to co-hosted hackathons and joint innovation labs, we are ready to hit the ground running.”
He highlighted hackathons as a core element of the collaboration, describing them as vital platforms for discovering untapped talent, encouraging problem-solving, and bridging academia with real-world innovation.
Also speaking, Mr. Emeka Nzeih, Head of Learning and Development at DBI, explained that the partnership would provide Miva students and faculty with access to DBI’s specialized ICT infrastructure, labs, and learning resources. He added that the MoU covers collaborative training, mentoring, and shared project implementation across multiple disciplines.
“The aim is to deepen practical knowledge and research among students, particularly in areas aligned with national and global digital trends,” Nzeih said.
Both institutions expressed optimism that the partnership will help nurture a new generation of digitally competent graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic transformation through technology.
The event was attended by senior staff of both institutions and stakeholders from Nigeria’s technology and academic communities.
