Tinubu, 30 Million Others Join Zuckerberg’s Threads

The president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, and former vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, are among the 30 million users who have joined Meta’s new platform, Threads. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, aims to reach one billion users in the near future. Threads, launched in over 100 countries, has already garnered 30 million users since its introduction, as stated by Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO.

The new social media platform Threads, owned by Meta (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp), has gained significant traction with 30 million sign-ups within a short period. The app saw rapid growth, with two million sign-ups in the first two hours, reaching five million in four hours, and hitting 10 million within seven hours.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, expressed excitement about the milestone and acknowledged the need for further development. Threads’ impressive user acquisition rate surpasses that of other popular platforms such as Google+, ChatGPT, Clubhouse, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Threads is launching amidst growing complaints against Elon Musk-owned Twitter, which has faced substantial criticism since the billionaire’s acquisition. Recently, the app introduced a view limit for tweets, further fueling dissatisfaction.

In response to a user’s question about Threads surpassing Twitter, Mark Zuckerberg expressed that while it would take time, he envisions a public conversation platform with over one billion users. Zuckerberg also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the app’s functionality before considering monetization. Similar to their other products, the focus is on building a robust user base first.

With approximately 450 million users, Twitter boasts a substantial user base, attracting notable public figures, celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, as well as prominent media outlets such as The Washington Post and The Economist.

However, Threads has not been launched in Europe due to concerns surrounding data privacy. Meta, facing significant criticism in Europe for its management of personal data, may encounter delays before the app’s release in the region.
