The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Abuja Chapter, under the leadership of C.itp Andrew Agbo Abu, MNCS, MCPN, Chairman, NCS Abuja Chapter, has taken another significant step towards advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda through a high-level courtesy visit to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, psc, mni, MNIM, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The visit focused on establishing a long-term strategic partnership between the Nigeria Computer Society and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to strengthen cybersecurity, digital policing, innovation, capacity development, and national digital resilience
Speaking during the visit, C.itp Andrew Agbo Abu, MNCS, MCPN, Chairman of the NCS Abuja Chapter, highlighted several strategic areas for collaboration. These include active participation of the Nigeria Police Force in the Nigeria Computer Society International Conference (RISE 2026), scheduled to commence on 27 July 2026 in Jos, Plateau State, as well as the Nigeria Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA) 2026 and the Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED) 2026, Nigeria’s leading platform for technology, innovation, the digital economy and public sector transformation.
The Chairman further proposed the establishment of a Joint NCS–Nigeria Police ICT Innovation and Cybersecurity Working Group to foster continuous collaboration on emerging technologies, cybersecurity, digital governance and national security initiatives.
Other strategic areas presented by the Chairman included participation of Nigeria Police personnel in the Society’s annual capacity-building programmes, modernising digital policing through indigenous technologies and innovation, strengthening Nigeria’s cyber resilience against evolving threats, enhancing election security through responsible Artificial Intelligence, geospatial intelligence and real-time analytics, developing standards for digital evidence, data governance and secure information management, building officers’ capacity in emerging technologies, creating opportunities for Nigerian innovators to contribute solutions to national security challenges, and positioning Nigeria as a continental leader in smart policing, secure digital governance and technology-enabled public safety.
In his response, DIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, psc, mni, MNIM, warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to leveraging technology in delivering modern policing.
Describing the ICT Department as the backbone of contemporary policing, the DIG emphasised the Inspector-General of Police’s unwavering commitment to improving policing services through the effective deployment of Information and Communication Technology.
He noted that the Nigeria Police Force is committed not only to combating crime through technology but also to proactively preventing crime using innovative ICT solutions. According to him, collaboration with the Nigeria Computer Society would significantly strengthen the Force’s ability to achieve these objectives.
The DIG described the Nigeria Computer Society as a strategic and credible professional partner capable of supporting the Nigeria Police Force’s digital transformation agenda. He assured the delegation of the Force’s readiness to actively support NCS programmes and initiatives.
He also disclosed that many ICT professionals within the Nigeria Police Force are interested in becoming members of the Nigeria Computer Society and appealed for special considerations that would encourage wider participation by police personnel in the Society.
Furthermore, the DIG confirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s willingness to partner with the NCS Abuja Chapter in hosting the Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED) 2026 in Abuja, affirming that the Force would serve as one of the major strategic partners for the event.
The NCS Abuja Chapter also encouraged female ICT professionals within the Nigeria Police Force to become active members of the Association of Women in ICT, further promoting diversity, inclusion and professional development within Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to building a sustainable institutional partnership that will drive innovation, strengthen cybersecurity, enhance digital policing, develop human capacity and contribute to a safer, smarter and more digitally resilient Nigeria.
The courtesy visit was attended by senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, including AIG Clement Roberts, psc, fsi; CP Hammed Sule; CP Ayodele Adeyemi; CP Charles Dire; DCP Charles Okafor; DCP Francis Oshiporu; DCP King Donald; DCP Kangiwa; ACP Abubakar Garba; and SP Thomas Joseph.
The NCS Abuja Chapter delegation was led by C.itp Andrew Agbo Abu, MNCS, MCPN, Chairman, NCS Abuja Chapter, and included the General Secretary, Mayowa Ajiboye; Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Jayeoba; Director of Welfare and Membership Drive, Peter Praise; Director of Training and Certifications, Kelvin Maurice; and Director of Events and Mobilisation, Vera Awoh-Akujobi.
The courtesy visit marks another milestone in strengthening collaboration between Nigeria’s foremost professional body for computing and the nation’s lead law enforcement agency. The engagement reinforces a shared commitment to harnessing technology, innovation, and strategic partnerships to enhance national security, promote digital transformation, and build a safer, smarter, and more resilient Nigeria.
