UNGA: Leo Stan Ekeh Calls for Creation of Major Media Platforms in Africa at Media Dialogue

Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of Zinox Group, emphasized the need for Africa to develop its own large-scale media platforms during a panel discussion on the future of media.

The dialogue, themed “The Media of the Future: Bridging the Gap Between the West and People of African Descent,” was held on the sidelines of the United Nations Summit of the Future during the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79).

Ekeh highlighted the challenges Africans face in achieving fair global media representation and called for greater control over the continent’s narratives. He also discussed his contributions to West Africa’s digital media transition and stressed the importance of using technology to amplify African voices on the global stage.

Other panelists, including Yul Anderson, Laolu Akande, and Abike Dabiri-Erewa, echoed these sentiments, calling for coordinated efforts to combat disinformation and promote positive African stories. They urged African leaders and media practitioners to invest in the continent’s media to reshape global perceptions and build stronger economies.
