Elon Musk Confirms Full Migration of Twitter to X.com

The social network formerly known as Twitter has officially transitioned to X.com, as confirmed by owner Elon Musk on Friday. Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion in late 2022, initially announced the rebrand to X in July.

Despite the rebranding efforts, the domain name remained Twitter.com until this recent update. “All core systems are now on X.com,” Musk stated on X, sharing an image of the new logo featuring a white X on a blue circle. As of Friday morning, queries to Twitter.com were redirected to X.com, although the original domain name still appeared in some browsers.

The rebranding to X aligns with Musk’s longstanding preference for the letter X in his ventures, dating back to his 1999 attempt to create an online financial superstore called X.com. Following his acquisition of Twitter, Musk established a company named X Corp to finalize the deal.

Musk envisions X evolving into a super-app similar to China’s WeChat, which integrates messaging, voice and video calling, social media, mobile payment, gaming, news, online booking, and other services. Recently, an AI chatbot named “Grok” was integrated into X and launched in Europe this week.

Musk’s management of X has been contentious. He has dismissed thousands of employees, faced significant technical challenges, and reinstated accounts of right-wing conspiracy theorists, including former US President Donald Trump. European regulators have also initiated investigations into X and other social media platforms over concerns about misinformation. The EU recently demanded that X clarify its decision to reduce content moderation staff, setting a deadline for the company to respond.
