US Embassy Revises Immigrant Visa Application Process in Nigeria

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced significant changes to its immigrant visa application process, effective January 1, 2025. Under the new system, applicants will be required to visit the U.S. Consulate in Lagos twice before completing their applications. The first visit will involve an in-person review of submitted documents to ensure completeness, while the second visit will be for the visa interview.

This two-step approach is designed to address common delays caused by incomplete or incorrect documentation. According to the embassy, applicants who fail to attend the initial document review will need to reschedule their interviews.

The embassy emphasized that the new procedure aims to streamline the visa application process and reduce the time taken to finalize applications. By ensuring that all required documents are reviewed before the interview, the embassy hopes to improve efficiency and minimize errors.

This adjustment applies to immigrant visa applicants with interviews scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). The embassy urged applicants to comply fully with the new process to avoid disruptions or delays in their visa processing.

The changes reflect the embassy’s commitment to enhancing its services and providing a more seamless experience for Nigerian visa applicants. Additional information is available on the U.S. Embassy’s official website.
