Former U.S. President Donald Trump is set to make his return to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, for a live interview with its owner, Elon Musk. This marks Trump’s first significant engagement on the platform since August 2023, when he posted a mugshot following his release from jail. The charges against him stemmed from his efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.
Trump’s last post in August was his first in over two years, after his account was banned following the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters. His account was later reinstated by Musk, who acquired X and emphasized his commitment to “free speech” as the reason for restoring Trump’s access.
In his comeback post, Trump shared a two-and-a-half-minute video featuring highlights from his time in office, along with his signature campaign rhetoric. “They’re not coming after me; they’re coming after you, and I just happen to be standing in their way, and I will never be moving,” Trump declared in the video.
While Trump has just over 7.5 million followers on Truth Social, his own social media platform, his X account, which had been mostly dormant, boasts 88 million followers. Musk, on the other hand, has over 193 million followers on his X account.
