Tribunal Nullifies Kano State Governor Yusuf’s Victory, Declares APC Winner

The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has nullified Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s victory and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 election.

Yusuf, who contested on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), had initially been declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following this declaration, Nasir Gawuna, his APC rival, congratulated him, but the APC decided to take the matter to court. On Wednesday, a three-member panel ruled for the withdrawal of the certificate of return presented to Governor Yusuf by INEC and directed the issuance of a certificate of return to Gawuna.

The tribunal made this decision after deducting 165,663 votes from Governor Yusuf’s total, citing these votes as invalid due to missing stamps or signatures, rendering them ineligible.
