Tinubu Extends Tenure of Customs CG Adeniyi by One Year to Consolidate Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose current term was scheduled to end on August 31, 2025.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the extension is intended to allow Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms already underway in the Customs Service and ensure the successful delivery of several high-impact national initiatives.

These include:
• The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service,
• Full implementation of the National Single Window Project, and
• Execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

President Tinubu commended Mr. Adeniyi for his dedicated leadership and affirmed his administration’s confidence in the CG’s capacity to deepen reforms, improve operational efficiency, and further enhance the agency’s performance in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security.

The extension signals continuity at a time when the Customs Service plays a critical role in driving economic competitiveness and aligning with the administration’s broader economic reform agenda.
