President Bola Tinubu has extended glowing tributes to the Founder and Chairman of Zinox Group, Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh, as the technology icon celebrates his 70th birthday today, February 22, 2026.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ekeh as a “pioneering innovator” and lauded his decades-long commitment to indigenous manufacturing and his role as a catalyst for Africa’s digital revolution.
A Historic Milestone Remembered
President Tinubu recalled the historic launch of the Zinox range of computers and accessories in 2001, characterizing it as a “groundbreaking moment” that redefined the possibilities for homegrown technology in Nigeria. He praised Ekeh for his tenacity as a pacesetter and a dynamic industrialist who has consistently promoted the Nigerian brand on the global stage.
The connection between the President and the tech mogul dates back to that 2001 milestone. Then serving as Governor of Lagos State, Tinubu played a central role in the Zinox launch, hosting Dr. Ekeh to a private dinner at the State House and providing a crucial “seal of approval” for local production.
Reflecting on the event, which took place at Eko Hotel, Tinubu noted that it remains one of the most significant technological showcases in Nigerian history—a sentiment shared at the time by then-Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a high-powered gathering of governors, ministers, and industry captains.
A Legacy of Empowerment and Innovation
President Tinubu further commended Ekeh for his dedication to youth empowerment, acknowledging that the Zinox Group has created vast opportunities for young Nigerians to thrive in the digital economy. This commitment was most recently demonstrated through Ekeh’s decision to mark his 70th birthday by funding 1,000 university scholarships for indigent Nigerian students to study Computer Science in federal universities across the country.
Beyond hardware manufacturing, Ekeh’s influence spans a massive conglomerate that includes Task Systems, TD Africa—the largest tech distribution hub in Sub-Saharan Africa—and Konga, the continent’s premier composite e-commerce platform.
Platinum Jubilee Wishes
As the Zinox Chairman enters his Platinum Jubilee, President Tinubu joined family, friends, and the global tech community in wishing him robust health and many more years of “groundbreaking accomplishments” for the nation.
The presidential tribute underscores the profound impact of Ekeh’s four-decade career on Nigeria’s technological landscape and his enduring role in shaping the country’s digital future.
