The completion of Sterling Bank’s transition to solar energy at its headquarters, Sterling Towers in Marina, Lagos State, marks a groundbreaking achievement in sustainable practices within the financial sector.
This move signifies a notable milestone in demonstrating how economic progress can align with environmental conservation, setting a precedent for other African businesses to follow suit.

Ibidapo Martins, the Group Chief Marketing Officer at Sterling, underscored the bank’s dedication to responsible corporate conduct and sustainable growth across Africa. He highlighted that this initiative not only breaks records but also showcases Nigeria’s potential to reshape the continent’s energy landscape.

Martins provided details on the project’s scale, revealing the installation of more than 3,250 high-efficiency crystalline silicon photovoltaic glass panels across 6,500 square meters on the 17-story building. This development stands as the largest solar integration across Africa to date, expected to generate 10,500 MWh over the next 25 years and supply 995 kWp to power the headquarters.

In addition to its environmental benefits, Martins stressed the expected economic savings in energy costs. These savings will be channeled into customer-focused innovations and services, reinforcing Sterling Bank’s commitment to sustainability while enhancing customer experiences.

Sterling Bank’s successful shift signifies a pioneering step in showcasing Africa’s potential in the renewable energy sector, contributing to a more sustainable future for the continent.
