Lagos State has achieved a significant milestone in land acquisition and documentation with the launch of an innovative electronic Geographic Information System (e-GIS) portal by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. This digital platform transforms the traditional manual processes into a streamlined, efficient, and transparent system for acquiring, documenting, and verifying land in Lagos.

The e-GIS portal, unveiled on Friday, marks a pivotal moment as applications for land titles shift from cumbersome paperwork to a user-friendly online platform. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the elimination of middlemen, reducing costs for applicants who previously engaged lawyers, surveyors, and registration agents.
Residents and investors can now effortlessly verify, search, and apply for various land titles, including the Governor’s Consent, from the convenience of their homes. The portal also facilitates requests for government surveys and applications for Certified True Copy (CTC) on landed properties.
Building upon the foundation of the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) initiated by former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu and advanced by Governor Babatunde Fashola, the e-GIS portal organizes historical land records dating back to the 19th century. It merges this wealth of information with current land titles, ensuring a comprehensive database of cadastral information for the State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his satisfaction with the successful launch, acknowledging the challenges faced during the digitization process. He highlighted the transformative impact of the e-GIS portal on land allocation, emphasizing its contribution to transparent governance in land transactions.
The Governor stated that the launch of the e-GIS portal today gives a great sense of joy, marking another milestone in the journey to make Lagos a 21st-century city. He emphasized the portal’s role in creating an enabling environment, reducing bottlenecks, and promoting accountability in land administration.
Powered by the Momentum Land Administration Solution software, Lagos State joins global cities utilizing technology for sustainable solutions. The system enhances productivity, revenue generation, and document security while fostering collaboration among government agencies involved in land administration.

The e-GIS portal received praise from the Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, who highlighted its role in streamlining data across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, credited the e-GIS portal for significantly reducing the search period for land data and information. He lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for steadfast support during challenging times, noting that the new innovation cleanses data and aids in identifying forged land titles in Lagos.
The launch of the e-GIS portal is a monumental step towards modernizing land administration in Lagos State, promising increased efficiency, transparency, and a seamless experience for residents and investors alike.
