Rural Electrification Agency Partner Ceesolar to Empower 140 Women in STEM Training Program

The Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), a World Bank-funded initiative led by the Rural Electrification Agency, has partnered with Ceesolar, a renewable energy company, to implement a specialized Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) Internship Program for women.

During the contract signing at the REA office complex in Abuja, Engr. Ahmad Salihijo, the Managing Director of REA, emphasized the growing need for skilled professionals in the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector and stressed the importance of women’s representation to meet this demand.

 

He praised the commitment of the University of Abuja and other participating institutions, urging the female beneficiaries to leverage this opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience for a successful career in the power sector.

Mr. Abba Aliyu, the Head of Project Management Unit of NEP, highlighted the project’s aim to bolster infrastructure and systems and foster the development and flow of talent. He encouraged the beneficiaries to transfer the knowledge and skills acquired during the internship, emphasizing the significance of maximizing growth in the renewable energy sector.

 

The internship program will offer both theoretical and hands-on practical experience to 20 selected female students from each of the seven participating institutions, including the University of Abuja and the University of Calabar.

Engr. Chibuike Ekeh, the Managing Director of Ceesolar, emphasized the students’ opportunity to visit the ongoing Energising Education Hybrid solar plant within their school campuses and gain firsthand experience in various aspects of solar installation.

 

He underscored the initiative’s goal of equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to become future leaders in the industry and contribute to the global efforts to combat climate change. This initiative aligns with the broader objective of supporting the energy transition and cultivating a sense of responsibility and readiness among students to make a meaningful impact in the realm of renewable energy.
