President Tinubu Has Reappointed Buba Marwa To Continue As Chairman Of The NDLEA

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for a second five-year term, extending his leadership of the agency until 2031.

Marwa was first appointed in January 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, after previously serving as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse from 2018 to 2020.

A distinguished military officer and administrator, Marwa has served as Military Governor of Lagos and Borno States, Brigade Major of the 23 Armoured Brigade, Aide-de-Camp to former Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, and Deputy Defence Adviser at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC. He also served as Defence Adviser at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

He holds postgraduate degrees in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.

Under Marwa’s leadership, the NDLEA has recorded significant achievements, including the arrest of more than 73,000 drug traffickers and barons and the seizure of over 15 million kilogrammes of illicit substances. The agency has also intensified national campaigns against drug abuse and strengthened inter-agency cooperation.

President Tinubu, in a message of commendation, said Marwa’s reappointment reflects the administration’s confidence in his “onerous efforts to rid the country of the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse,” urging him to remain relentless in dismantling drug networks targeting young Nigerians.
