The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has ranked the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as one of the top five best-performing Federal Government agencies for 2025 under the ‘Transparency and Efficiency’ category, recognising the Commission’s commitment to openness, accountability, and service excellence.
The announcement was made at the PEBEC Awards and Gala Night held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja. The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) emerged the overall best-performing agency, followed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Ports Authority were also listed among the top five performers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the leadership and staff of the recognised agencies, noting that national progress is achieved when institutions work collaboratively toward shared goals.
“We salute the men and women driving these institutions. When we commit to working together across MDAs, across states, and across sectors, Nigeria wins,” Shettima said.
He emphasised that the awards reflect the administration’s resolve to strengthen public service systems and foster a competitive business environment.
“The reforms championed by PEBEC speak to the entirety of our economic aspirations—reforms that make it easier to do business, restore investor confidence, and ensure our institutions function in the spirit of national growth,” he added.
Receiving the award on behalf of the NCC, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the recognition affirms the Commission’s dedication to transparent and accountable regulatory practices.
“The Commission is proud to be listed among the Top Five Best-Performing Federal Government Agencies for 2025,” Maida said. “This honour validates the values that guide our work—transparency, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to regulatory excellence.”
Maida stated that the award also serves as a challenge for the Commission to deepen its service delivery, strengthen industry governance, and ensure that telecom consumers consistently enjoy high-quality service.
“As an economic regulator, our mandate is to create an environment where operators can thrive—an environment that attracts investment, sustains healthy competition, and protects consumers,” he added.
PEBEC Director-General, Zahrah Mustapha-Audu, described the event as a celebration of reform champions who have embraced excellence beyond mere compliance.
“This evening is not just an awards ceremony—it is a powerful affirmation of what is possible,” she said. “Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the active chairmanship of Vice President Kashim Shettima, our reform efforts are driven by intentionality, accountability, and the strategic use of data.”
Mustapha-Audu emphasised that improving Nigeria’s business environment begins with strengthening institutional frameworks and operational systems across government.
The 2025 PEBEC Awards highlighted significant progress in enhancing the nation’s business climate, with the NCC’s recognition reaffirming its role as a leading driver of public sector transformation and digital economic growth.
