Phase3 Telecom is reinforcing its role as a leading enabler of Africa’s digital economy by targeting underserved corridors, strengthening data localisation, and supporting low-latency cloud infrastructure across the continent.
Speaking on the company’s vision, Craig Lowe, Chief Growth Officer at Phase3, noted that Africa is leapfrogging legacy systems, with mobile money replacing traditional banking, satellite innovations reducing broadband costs, and new fibre corridors enabling faster, more resilient connectivity.
A core focus is the Accra–Lagos corridor, where Phase3, in partnership with SBIN and CSquared, is working to deliver a high-capacity, low-latency terrestrial link. This route will improve bandwidth, enhance local content delivery, support fintech and e-commerce growth, and create a more resilient backbone for cloud and SaaS adoption. Lowe also highlighted the growing importance of data localisation, with countries such as Nigeria and South Africa adopting strict protection laws, and initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aiming to harmonise governance.
Phase3 is also monitoring developments such as the launch of AWS Wavelength infrastructure in Dakar, which embeds cloud capabilities into telecom networks to deliver ultra-low latency for enterprises and consumers. “This is about more than infrastructure,” Lowe said. “It’s about co-creating a digitally inclusive, future-ready Africa where governments, enterprises, and citizens can thrive.”
