In a bid to reposition Nigeria’s postal services, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy unveils the unboundling of NIPOST as he commissions some of its new initiatives reports DigiVation Network
With the launch of the new NIPOST electronic debit card, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Patami, has once again stressed the benefits of digital transformation and inclusiveness.
The project, which he sees as a first in Nigeria, will improve bill settlement, boost financial inclusion, and accelerate the development of a fast-growing digital economy.
The construction of the financial platform, according to Pantami, is part of the attempt to reposition NIPOST. “As the postal organization unbundles its operations and services to compete favorably with the organized private sector,” the Minister claims, “this will allow NIPOST to expand its banking services with the proposed NIPOST Micro Finance Bank.”
In contrast to the traditional postal system, NIPOST Logistics Company intends to expand up its expansion of logistics services. To that aim, NIPOST has purchased 27 trucks to begin expanding its eCommerce services and contributing to the gains of the digital economy sector, as championed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The launch of the NIPOST e-Debit card, the Agency Banking platform, and the new Logistics vehicles are all crucial to Nigeria and the NIPOST family, according to the Postmaster General of Nigeria in an interview with DigiVation Network. This “marks another milestone in our efforts to reposition the post in Nigeria in line with the current digital transformation objectives of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, which are overseen by our tireless Minister Prof Isa Pantami, to whom we owe a debt of gratitude.”
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has incorporated two subsidiary firms, the NIPOST Property and Workshop Ltd and the Transport and Logistics Ltd. All of this, however, is aimed at lowering operational expenses, raising revenue, and revitalizing the system in order to restore public trust in the post.
With the new direction of NIPOST and some of the very visible accomplishments made thus far, some observers believe the organization is on the verge of a new growth and economic rebirth that will be the envy of everyone.
