The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) said that over 70 million people had signed up for the ongoing National Identity Number (NIN) registration, with over 15 million people downloading the NIMC’s mobile app.
“The NIMC mobile APP allows users to digitally validate their NINs, link their NINs to the SIM (up to seven numbers), and print the upgraded NIN slip from the comfort of their homes/offices,” the commission noted in a statement published by its Head Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke.
Aliyu Aziz, Director-General/CEO of NIMC, credited Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, for a big part of the agency’s success.
“The Commission was able to achieve the feat due to President Muhammadu Buhari’s immeasurable contributions, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the hardworking staff, the Front End Partners (FEPS), and other critical stakeholders in the identity sector,” he said.
Tokenisation, the NIMC Mobile APP, and contactless enrolment solutions were recently introduced by President Buhari as part of the Federal government’s digital economy program, which is overseen by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
“NIMC pledges to develop a positive brand and to continue to look for methods to better and efficiently provide excellent identity services to all,” it said.
