The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has successfully trained 500 youths in Cross River State in the art of solar power installation and maintenance. As part of the Board’s youth empowerment and human capacity-building initiatives, the comprehensive six-month training took place in three locations across the state, namely Calabar, Bekearra, and Ogoja.

Mr. Abdulmalik Halilu, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the NCDMB, highlighted the program’s aim to create employment opportunities, generate wealth, and empower the youth to contribute significantly to the nation’s economy. Recognizing the significance of technology, skill acquisition in trades, and agriculture, Halilu emphasized the importance of renewable energy solutions in addressing the challenges posed by unreliable electric power supply, particularly in Nigeria and Africa.
The solar power installation and maintenance training not only offered an alternative power source for homes and businesses but also aimed to complement the national power grid while providing job opportunities for the participants. To ensure the sustainability of the program, the Board finalized plans to register cooperative societies for the trainees and provide them with dedicated shops for their business activities.

Emphasizing the long-term support provided to youths seeking empowerment in various high-impact economic sectors, including oil and gas, Information and Communication Technology, agriculture, and construction, the Director underscored the significance of equipping Nigerian youth with the necessary skills and capacities to address pressing issues within the energy sector. He encouraged the participants to leverage the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Joint Qualification System to access future capacity-building interventions and employment prospects.
In his address, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo, the former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring, expressed commendation for the NCDMB’s commitment to training youths in Cross River State. He congratulated the trainees and emphasized the growing importance of energy transition as the new norm for Nigerians.
