NCC Extends Deadline for Glo and MTN to Resolve Interconnectivity Dispute

The initial pre-disconnection notice issued on January 8, 2024, allowed MTN to commence phased disconnection of Globacom on January 18, 2024, due to a longstanding interconnection debt dispute between the two telecom companies.

Recognizing the potential impact on consumers, the NCC engaged both parties to facilitate a resolution that prioritizes consumer interests and ensures the smooth operation of the national telecoms network.

The latest announcement reveals that MTN and Glo have reached an agreement to resolve all outstanding issues. Consequently, the NCC, exercising its regulatory powers, has suspended the phased disconnection for a 21-day period starting January 17, 2024.

While expecting both companies to resolve outstanding matters within this timeframe, the NCC emphasizes the obligatory settlement of interconnect debts by all operating companies to comply with regulatory obligations outlined in their licenses and interconnection agreements.
